Academic Lawyers’ Association - Consortium Iurisperitus Labacensis natisni

Presentation

Academic Lawyers’ Association is a leading independent and non-partisan association of Slovenian lawyers and law students, aiming to promote the values of freedom, democracy, and rule of law within Slovenian and European society.

Academic Lawyers’ Association was established in 2000 and is the lawful successor to one of the oldest Slovenian law societies “Akademskodruštvo Pravda”, which ceased to exist after the Communist revolution and takeover of power in 1945.

Our agenda is inspired by the lives and work of Dr. Leonid Pitamic, internationally renowned Slovenian legal scholar and the first rector of University of Ljubljana, and Sir Thomas More, English lawyer, statesman, Renaissance philosopher and notable humanist.

From 2010 Academic Lawyers’ Association is a proud partner of The Federalist Society, one of the most prominent US jurists’ associations.

Activities

Academic Lawyers’ Association fulfills its mission by organizing annual legal conferences and monthly debate panels, called IUS Caffès, on latest Slovenian and European legal issues, featuring distinguished Slovenian and foreign experts.

Also, we are organizing monthly evening discussions, called Freedom Tracts, with leading Slovenian decision-makers and intellectuals, who share their thoughts on the ideas of free society. We address issues, such as democracy, the rule of law and human rights by launching regular public initiatives and publishing statements.

In collaboration with the leading Slovenian youth initiative “Mrežaidej – Network of Ideas” we are organizing monthly Business Luncheons with leading Slovenian and international decision-makers, who share their thoughts on the most pressing economic and political issues facing Slovenia, and the EU today.

Among our most notable guests were the President of the Slovenian Constitutional Court Dr. Ernest Petric, the Secretary General of the OECD Mr. José Ángel Gurría, Russian Minister for Communications and Mass Media Mr. Nikolai Nikiforov, the President of Slovenian Academy of Arts and Sciences Dr. Jože Trontelj, Minister of Infrastructure Mr. Zvone Černač and many others.
